Rochester, Minnesota, October 10, 2008 - USG staff members were present at the 2008 Minnesota GIS/LIS Annual Conference to show continued support as well as assist  in the consortium's long-standing commitment of providing a quality professional education opportunity at a reasonable price.

The 18th Annual Minnesota GIS/LIS Consortium Conference and Workshops was held October 1-3, 2008 at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minnesota. The event featured structured workshops, technical sessions, panel discussions, technology demonstrations, project updates and local and national speakers. All were geared toward professionals interested in learning more about geographic information systems and land information systems technology in Minnesota and beyond.

"This conference is a great user conference demonstrating the multiple uses of GIS throughout many disciplines utilizing different applications, but sharing the common thread of GIS information. You always come away with new insights and ideas, along with meeting up with colleagues in discussing ways to collaborate with GIS," said Andy Schmidt, Senior GIS Technician, USG.

Andy served as the session moderator for the Imagery track, which dealt with digital photo collection and processing for specialized applications and asset/feature creation both from aerial and from the ground.

Mike Siedschlag, GIS Technician, USG. was a presenter in the Data - Development, Use, and Sharing session. Mike provided insight into the Great River Energy Field Verification Project and how the data is being collected, developed and shared in the enterprise. The intent of the project is to reconcile all paper and legacy data records throughout the organization into a single set of verified correct asset records and to propagate it among other corporate system databases utilizing a unique asset record ID.

"I wanted to present on the utility industry's use of GIS because it is often overlooked. GRE's Line Verification Project is a very large and extensive project which utilizes many GIS and Asset Management techniques and strategies," said Mike.
